I am deeply concerned by Elon Musk and DOGE’s actions. We need to call this what it is — a coup. While I am encouraged by the recent steps democrats have taken to slow the administration down, such as filibusters, boycotts, and protests, we need to do more.
Congress was barred from entering multiple buildings while Musk’s team was at work. Congress has far more right, and in fact a Constitutional guarantee to oversight of executive agencies. Musk has no authority to enter.
Democrats must escalate. Get police to physically remove him from the premises. Detain him. Don’t simply walk away after being told you can’t enter. Stand firm and use your power. These are not normal times and we cannot keep operating as if they are. If riot squads can be sent after peaceful protestors, they can be ordered to use force against an oligarch’s insurrection.
