Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
What we’re seeing…
A not insignificant portion of the Congressional GOP has given up on the promise of democracy. Choosing instead to demonstrate their total capitulation to Donald Trump. To throw their oaths of office to the winds and instead stand in solidarity, costumed in obeisance, to disavow the rule of law, to denigrate the legal processes that help make America, America. Processes that the rest of us are expected to adhere to.
They have chosen instead to be the jury, and their decision is that nothing that DJT may be accused of has any legitimacy at all. Not the charges. Not the process. Not the decision of a judge. Nothing.
He is their martyr. And they have shown, with DJT-edited Cliff notes in hand, that they have abdicated completely to their leader’s vision for the country going forward. A vision that would allow him and his devotees to do as they please, because there is no rule that applies to them. Because they say so.
They have shown, and will continue to show, that they don’t give one whit for we the people. Regardless of the piety with which they continue to throw this justification out of their mouths for their own self-serving intent.
Toadies on parade. And seemingly proud to be so. Especially when there’s a camera pointed at them. Or the big guy gives them a nod.
Are taxpayers paying for them to blatantly interfere with justice? And by extension the upcoming election?
“Echoing the promise of the right-wing Proud Boys to Trump before they stormed the U.S. Capitol to install Trump into office despite the will of the voters, [Matt] Gaetz tweeted: “Standing back and standing by, Mr. President.””
This are the people who are the face of the current GOP. You must be proud.
