Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
My brain hurts. I’d like one morning where I wasn’t bombarded with all things Donald Trump. The fixation on him is becoming as dysfunctional as he is.
Reading headlines in other countries, they seem to still want to hold their leaders accountable. Boris Johnson may get taken down for partying during Covid. Here, we let insurrectionist presidents lead one of our major political parties and create coups, chaos, and violence daily. Supported by the media. And the GOP.
He wants to use pardons for the January 6 insurrectionists. Which is quid pro quo in the making. Continue to do my bidding and I’ll make it worth your while.
He’s threatening officials who are investigating him on multiple fronts. Calling these same black officials racist. Winding up his supporters to confront them, which they are, to the point that at least one of them has asked for additional security.
“These prosecutors are vicious, horrible people. They're racists and they're very sick—they're mentally sick," he said. "They're going after me without any protection of my rights from the Supreme Court or most other courts. In reality, they're not after me, they're after you."
All of this and the recently released statement admitting he was intending and hoping to overturn the 2020 election by intimidating his VP.
So much for the tired excuse of trying to root out voter fraud.
But the ultimate question in all this is…
“What will the Republican leaders who have tied themselves to Trump say now that he has openly admitted he was trying to destroy our democracy?”
This question should be asked each and every one of his enablers every day going forward.
Just because he’s burning down the house in broad daylight doesn’t make it okay. And y’all should have to explain why you think it is.
