Condemn and prevent dangerous anti-trans bill from becoming legal precedent

I urge you to take a few moments to prevent an anti-trans legal precedent from being set by publicly condemning Texas's Representative Brent Money and his dangerous bill against life saving medical treatment. Such an egregious assault on transgender rights and wellbeing denies access to medically necessary gender-affirming care, leading to mental health crises, bullying, discrimination and more. Further, history shows us that once we allow rights to be stripped away from one marginalized group, nobody is safe. Not you or I. No person should have their transition forcibly halted against medical advice, yet this overreaching bill seeks to criminalize treatments with proven benefits per major health organizations like the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Psychological Association. A nationwide threat looms if one state succeeds in banning gender-affirming care for people of all ages, betraying principles of personal liberty and the consensus of medical experts that such care is vital and evidence-based. The proposed Texas legislation ignores recommendations that gender-affirming care for transgender youth results in improved mental health outcomes and lower rates of suicide ideation and attempts, as demonstrated by numerous peer-reviewed studies cited by respected medical bodies. All elected officials across the nation must work together to protect our country's most vulnerable citizens and the slippery slope of civil rights loss which can quickly spread from state to state if we do not speak up, first, and quickly.
