TEXAS IS NOT A DICTATORSHIP

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. Watching our Texas leaders try and roll back time, humanity, and personal freedoms, I’m offering a view from my small west Texas town. We have had two recent city/county elections. In each, a combined front of sane Republicans and Democrats very soundly beat back extreme elements running for office. They were viewed as a threat to the quality of our town and the lives of the people who call it home. My town is not an example of every divisive thing y’all are trying to do. Although I expect you assume it is. Like everywhere else, yes there are elements that see no progress as good progress, who wish for some halcyon golden time that never existed, and that consider any move towards an inclusive society as a personal threat. What y’all are doing in our name is repulsive. Repressing voting. Repressing women. Repressing minorities. Repressing LGBTQ. Traumatizing medical professionals, librarians, teachers, who are afraid to do parts of their jobs for fear of legal or vigilante retribution. Taking away our personal rights and freedoms while professing to do just the opposite. Even taking on social media based on phony grievance. You are not saving us. You are destroying Texas for a dwindling minority that will never be enough to keep you in power without implementing the sorts of destructive politics we watch every single day. Texas is leading in barbaric lawmaking. Y’all are succeeding in trying to mandate the most personal decisions because…why? What ever happened to the Texas way of ‘live and let live’? (If you come to my town you might be reminded of what that looks like.) Instead it is now ‘my way or the highway.’ Y’all are awful for Texas. And Texans.
