An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Promote Plurism, Denounce favoritism of one religion

The proposed legislation to require the display of the Ten Commandments in Texas public school classrooms raises serious concerns about respecting the constitutional principle of separation of church and state. This initiative favors one religion over others, potentially alienating students and families from diverse backgrounds. A public school environment should be inclusive and welcoming to all, without promoting or endorsing any particular religious beliefs. Compelling students to be exposed to the tenets of a specific faith violates their rights to freedom of religion and could make some feel like outsiders in their own classrooms. We must uphold the values of pluralism and protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of their religious or non-religious affiliations. This bill undermines those fundamental principles that our nation was founded upon. I urge you to reject this misguided legislation and ensure that our public schools remain neutral spaces where students of all faiths and beliefs feel equally respected and accommodated.
