An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Abolish ICE and Investigate Agents Responsible for Civilian Deaths

44 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

Congress needs to act now to abolish ICE and launch a full investigation into the agents responsible for the recent string of civilian killings. Two men are dead in less than a week: Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old Mexican homebuilder shot by ICE agents in Houston on July 7, and a 26-year-old Colombian man killed in Maine. Senior ICE officials themselves are pointing the finger at Trump's arrest quotas, warning that officers "pushed to the breaking point" are being forced into fatal confrontations. That is not a defense — it is a confession. An agency whose own leadership admits it is killing civilians due to political pressure has lost all legitimacy. Every day Congress delays is another day this continues. Abolish ICE, investigate the agents involved in these shootings, and hold accountable everyone up the chain of command who created the conditions for these deaths. Your constituents are watching, and patience is gone.
