I am writing to urge you to abolish the filibuster and pass the Freedom to Vote Act without delay.
After years of misuse, the time has come to abolish the filibuster in the Senate. The filibuster is an obsolete relic of the Jim Crow era that has held back Congress from passing even the most popular, common sense pieces of legislation.
As my senator, you now must decide if you want to keep the filibuster or keep your promises to the American people. You can’t have both.
Now more than ever, our democracy needs transformative change to protect against the influence of special interests and stop voter suppression tactics that predominantly disenfranchise Black and brown voters.
The Freedom to Vote Act would strengthen our democracy and improve ballot access nationwide. It would make our government more responsive to the needs of the people and help restore faith in our democracy.
The Freedom to Vote Act has the potential to truly transform our democracy to reflect the voices of the American people, but we can’t allow needless obstruction to block this critical legislation.
Thank you.
