Condemn the killing of the World Central Kitchen workers

I am writing to express my profound dismay and outrage over the recent killing of three employees of the humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen in the West Bank on April 1st, 2024. According to reports, a convoy of World Central Kitchen vehicles was struck by Israeli military fire on three separate occasions while attempting to deliver food to refugees in the town of Jenin. These were clearly marked humanitarian vehicles on a mission coordinated and approved in advance with the Israeli military authorities. It is unacceptable that civilians providing emergency food aid were repeatedly and deliberately targeted, resulting in the deaths of three humanitarian workers – Amer Shehada, Jamal Owdeh, and Pedro Rodríguez. This appears to be an egregious violation of international laws protecting humanitarian relief workers. I urge you to condemn these killings in the strongest possible terms and demand a full, impartial investigation by the United Nations and international human rights organizations. Those responsible must be held accountable. The United States cannot stand by while our ally Israel carries out unlawful attacks on humanitarian workers trying to alleviate suffering and hunger. We must make it clear that such actions against civilians will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Please let me know what actions you will take to address this tragic incident and ensure protections for humanitarian aid workers operating in conflict zones around the world. Thank you for your attention to this important issue.
