“It is my Great Honor to report that the United States of America now fully owns and controls 10% of INTEL, a Great American Company that has an even more incredible future,” said the Chief Extortioner of America.
Trump took the stake in the company after calling on August 7 for its CEO Lip-Bu Tan, to step down. When Tan met with Trump on August 11, the president says, he told Tan the U.S. “should be given 10% of Intel.” Tan agreed. Announcing the deal, Trump referred to Tan as “the Highly Respected Chief Executive Officer of the Company.”
Nice company you got there. It’d a shame if something happened to it. This is the way a mob boss makes deals. And Republicans cheered.
So we can scratch yet another item off the fictitious list of Republican values. The free market. The guys who have screamed for years that any regulation on business is socialism now celebrate the government takeover of a private business.
Putin must be so proud. His number one fanboy is developing his very own oligarchy. All with the support of duplicitous politicians who are supposed to be working for their country.
You’ve supported a felonious president who used racism and sexism and lies and (unsuccessful) violence to get back in office. And now that he is, your party is actively helping him in his successful quest to dismantle democracy. A goal of Movement Conservatives for years.
But he has little interest in the small-government principles Movement Conservatives claim to champion. And is instead using state power to terrorize citizens. He has abandoned the due process of the law and states’ rights and is working to rig the system permanently in his favor.
And now he has abandoned free-market principles your party said they always stood for. And you cheer.
Right-wing activist Christopher Rufo explained on social media that “a new conservatism has emerged. We are leading a rebellion against the establishment and dismantling the elements of the left-wing ideological regime—not for the purpose of nihilism, but for the purpose of rebirth, or restoration, of our republic.”
But as one commenter noted, “just textbook 1930s fascism.”
What would you call everything we’re watching? It’s certainly not good for the country. Or the people. Your party has failed America.
And hopefully, unless y’all finally figure out how to take our votes away from us, no good for the GOP either. You may be able to inflame our most base passions, but your policies have never been popular. Let’s hope we’ll still be able to prove that in 2026.
God save America until then. He seems to be the only one who can.
