I urge you to oppose the National Defense Authorization Act unless dangerous provisions that weaken aviation safety and oversight are removed.
The United States is already on track to spend nearly $1 trillion on defense, accounting for almost 40% of global military spending. A bill of this magnitude should come with rigorous scrutiny and a clear commitment to public safety. Instead, the NDAA is being rushed forward as “must-pass,” allowing reckless provisions to move forward with little accountability.
After the deadly midair collision near Reagan National Airport that killed 67 people, the National Transportation Safety Board warned Congress not to weaken aviation safety rules while investigations are ongoing. Yet the NDAA passed by the House would roll back key safeguards and allow military helicopters to operate under different rules in Washington, D.C.’s already crowded airspace. The NTSB has called this a significant safety setback and an unacceptable risk.
No bill deserves a free pass simply because it is labeled “must-pass.” If these dangerous provisions remain in the NDAA, you must vote against it. Public safety must come before speed, convenience, or political inertia.
Please remove the provisions that weaken aviation safety and oversight, adopt stronger protections, or reject the bill outright if those fixes are not made.
