Call for accountability, end arms transfers to Israel

The Israeli military's killing of 14 unarmed Palestinian protesters and injuring over 1,400 others on March 30, 2018 in Gaza was an unlawful and calculated use of excessive lethal force against demonstrations that posed no imminent threat to Israeli forces. Senior officials publicly stated their intent to deploy snipers and open fire on "instigators" or those approaching the border fence, despite no evidence that protesters used firearms or crossed into Israel. This violation of international norms governing use of force resulted in foreseeable deaths and injuries. As a matter of safeguarding human rights, all arms transfers and funding to Israel must cease until there is credible accountability for these killings and concrete measures taken to prevent disproportionate force against protesters. Independent investigations are crucial, yet Israeli authorities have dismissed calls for inquiry and praised the military's actions, perpetuating the culture of impunity. A firm stance against such abuses upholds the rights and dignity of all people. Source: www.hrw.org/news/2018/04/03/israel-gaza-killings-unlawful-calculated
