I am writing as your constituent to demand that you vote against the $70 billion immigration funding reconciliation package in its current form. As passed by the Senate on June 5, this legislation acts as a massive blank check that completely abandons basic congressional oversight.
Right now, billions of taxpayer dollars are being poured into ICE and CBP without basic constitutional guardrails. By bypassing the traditional appropriations process via reconciliation, Congress is voluntarily surrendering its duty to provide checks and balances on the executive branch.
Whether you prioritize fiscal responsibility, Fourth Amendment rights, or basic human dignity, this bill fails the test. I urge you to reject this package unless it is amended to include:
- Binding Oversight: Require body-worn cameras for all field agents, backed by public audit logs, to ensure true accountability.
- Constitutional Standards: Mandate that DHS agencies obtain judicial warrants for home entries, upholding the Fourth Amendment.
- Sensitive Location Protections: Codify into federal law that enforcement operations cannot occur at schools, hospitals, or places of worship.
- An End to Blank Check Funding: Restore transparency riders. If the government spends $70 billion of our money, the public has a right to see exactly how it is used.
Congress has the power—and the duty—to stop the executive branch from operating outside the law. Do not pass a $70 billion bill that treats accountability as optional. I expect you to prioritize the rule of law over unfettered, unchecked agency expansion.
