Stop the Bills Turning Ohio Hospitals and Police into ICE Agents

I am a constituent writing to urge you to oppose the recently introduced legislative package regarding immigration enforcement, specifically House Bills 26, 200, 281, and 554. This "Cooperation Package" threatens the safety and well-being of all Ohioans for several reasons: Public Health & Safety (HB 281): Mandating ICE access to hospitals and mental health facilities discourages vulnerable residents from seeking life-saving emergency care. This creates a public health risk that affects our entire community. Trust in Law Enforcement (HB 26 & HB 554): Forcing local police to act as federal immigration agents erodes the trust necessary for immigrant communities to report crimes or cooperate with local investigations, ultimately making our neighborhoods less safe. Constitutional & Jurisdictional Concerns (HB 200): Creating a state felony for "unauthorized presence" is a significant overreach of state power into federal jurisdiction and risks leading to widespread racial profiling. Instead of these punitive measures, I ask that you support the "Safeguard Package" proposed by House Democrats, which prioritizes due process and protects sensitive locations like schools and places of worship. Please vote NO on HB 26, HB 200, HB 281, and HB 554 to protect the civil rights and safety of all Ohio residents.
