I strongly urge you to vote against the NDAA currently up for passage in the Senate. Defense spending should not be a blank check to arms dealers whose lobbiests have more to say than the Pentagon about what new weapons system we "need". Please heed President Eisenhower's warning about the military-industrial complex: he knew whereof he spoke.
This year’s NDAA is a “security” sham. The bill funds a sea-launched nuclear missile (SLCM-N) that not even the Navy wanted, and it buys F-35 fighter jets that have trouble staying in the air. It will pour BILLIONS more dollars above the President’s original military budget request into weapons and war, all but ensuring that the Pentagon remains the largest institutional global emitter of greenhouse gasses for years to come.
So, if you’ve found yourself wishing for a better world — with decent healthcare, better schools, good jobs, clean air, safer streets, and more — you cannot stay silent while Congress signs off on nearly $860 BILLION to keep the war machine humming while our communities go without.
