Protect USPS from privatization, preserve universal service

The potential privatization of the United States Postal Service poses a significant threat to the reliable and affordable delivery of mail, packages, and essential goods to every household across the nation. As a public service enshrined in the Constitution, the USPS provides universal service regardless of location or profitability, ensuring rural and remote communities maintain vital connections. Privatization would likely prioritize profits over this obligation, leading to disruptions or elimination of service in less profitable areas. The USPS is a beloved American institution that has served citizens through wars, economic upheavals, and national emergencies for over two centuries. Transitioning to a private corporation focused on maximizing shareholder value could severely undermine this public good. Without legislative protections, privatization could also jeopardize the rights and livelihoods of the USPS's 630,000 union workers. For these reasons, I urge opposition to any efforts to privatize the Postal Service or compromise its ability to fulfill its constitutional mandate of binding the nation together through universal service. The public interest is best served by maintaining the USPS as an independent agency providing affordable and reliable delivery to all Americans.
