DOGE Cuts Leave NWS Offices in CO, KS, KY, MI, MO, NE, ND, SD, WY in Crisis
The reckless staffing cuts at the National Weather Service (NWS) are putting American lives in danger, and the blame falls squarely on the drastic and irresponsible decisions coming from DOGE. These cuts have left critical NWS offices understaffed, forcing them to rely on “mutual aid” just to function. Offices in Cheyenne, WY; Goodland, KS; Jackson, KY; Kansas City, MO; Marquette, MI; Omaha, NE; Rapid City, SD; Wichita, KS; Denver, CO; Sioux Falls, SD; and Grand Forks, ND—many of them in tornado-prone areas—are critically short on personnel. Already, reports show an increase in unwarned tornadoes, a direct consequence of these staffing reductions.
This is not just bureaucratic reshuffling; it is life and death. When Americans lose their homes or their lives because storm warnings didn’t come in time, the responsibility falls on those who gutted these essential services without thought or care. I demand an immediate reversal of these cuts and a full investigation into how DOGE’s mismanagement is actively endangering the public. Protecting Americans from preventable disasters should not be a partisan issue—restore funding, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure our communities have the warnings they need before tragedy strikes.
