An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Oppose and Vote NO on H.R. 1123
62 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!
Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to vote against H.R. 1123, the bill to abolish the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Eliminating USAID would undermine our nation's ability to provide critical humanitarian aid and promote democratic values around the world. USAID plays a vital role in responding to global crises, fostering economic development, and advancing human rights.
As you know, by partnering with countries and organizations globally, USAID's efforts help create a more stable and secure world. Disbanding this agency would not only hinder our moral obligation to assist the world's most vulnerable populations, but it would damage America's standing as a leader on the global stage, and of course, cost many lives.
USAID programs help counter the spread of extremism, strengthen democratic institutions, and open new markets for American businesses. In fact, the sweeping freeze on foreign assistance has also made it more difficult to track potential misuse of US taxpayer-funded humanitarian assistance, according to numerous reports. Farmers in the US will also lose markets for their goods.
For these reasons, and many others, I strongly urge you to protect USAID's mission and funding by voting no on H.R. 1123. Maintaining robust development and diplomacy capabilities through USAID advances American interests and values.
Please vote NO on H.R. 1123. Thank you.
