Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a dozen or more states across the country moved to enforce abortion bans, and that number could ultimately double. Some politicians are even attempting to punish people for traveling across state lines to get an abortion and for assisting those who need care. These laws disproportionately harm people with low incomes, people of color, young people, LGBTQ people, and others who already face barriers to accessing health care.
For nearly 50 years, women and all people who can become pregnant have relied on the power to decide if and when to have a child. Banning abortion is deeply unpopular across the country – yet state politicians are moving faster than ever to deny us control over our own bodies and futures. More than ever, we need federal safeguards to protect everyone's ability to access abortion care, no matter where they live.
