I am writing to express my deep concern regarding Linda McMahon’s nomination as Secretary of Education. Her lack of experience in education and her strong advocacy for school privatization through voucher programs pose a significant threat to public education in our country.
Public schools serve 90% of our nation’s students, providing equitable access to education for children of all backgrounds. McMahon’s agenda to divert vital resources from public schools toward privatization would undermine this cornerstone of our democracy. Additionally, her alignment with policies that threaten civil rights protections, reduce funding for vulnerable students, increase class sizes, and limit access to higher education is deeply troubling.
As Secretary of Education, McMahon would wield enormous influence over policies that shape the future of our schools and students. Her priorities appear to favor ideology and privatization over evidence-based strategies to support educators, students, and families. Confirming a nominee with such a background would be a disservice to the millions of students and educators who rely on a strong, adequately funded public education system.
I urge you to reject Linda McMahon’s nomination and instead advocate for a leader with the qualifications, experience, and commitment to ensuring that all students, regardless of their circumstances, have access to a quality public education. Our children deserve far better leadership at the Department of Education.
