An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Protect Public Health and LGBTQ+ Rights—Oppose CDC HIV Division Reorganization

7 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I’m writing to urge you to oppose the proposed reorganization of the CDC’s HIV Prevention Division, which would dissolve its status as an independent office and merge it into a larger, non-disease-specific division. This change would significantly weaken the CDC’s ability to lead and coordinate HIV prevention nationwide. For decades, the Division of HIV Prevention has played a vital role in research, community outreach, and funding support—especially for LGBTQ+ communities and communities of color most impacted by the epidemic. The proposed restructuring risks dismantling this progress at a time when the U.S. is still far from ending the HIV epidemic. I ask you to speak out against this move and advocate for maintaining the Division of HIV Prevention as a standalone office with the autonomy and resources needed to continue its life-saving work. Thank you for your attention to this urgent public health matter.
