Homelessness is a scary prospect for the majority of us. Unfortunately, it is the stark reality for more than 30,000 Floridians, a significant portion of which are children. And, while many people simply walk past individuals on the sidewalks, as representatives of the people, Florida legislators have a duty to address the problem and provide solutions. Solutions are not free and cannot be implemented if Florida’s leadership continues to raid the funds designated to address the homelessness here in our beautiful state.
In 2019 alone, our legislature allocated more than $200 million for housing programs and then they promptly moved $125 million of those funds to other programs that are not focused on the problem of homelessness. The 2020 budget includes $387 million to address this issue. I’m implore your, please use these funds to give shelter and care to our homeless. Even one homeless person in Florida is one too many.
