Twenty-nine years ago, Congress passed the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). This groundbreaking piece of legislation was created as a start, helping to address the duality of earning a paycheck while taking care of one’s familial responsibilities. Now, in 2022, working families and businesses are counting on the U.S. Senate to finish what was started twenty-nine years ago and pass a national, permanent and comprehensive paid family and medical leave program just like every other industrialized nation has already done.
Working families need the U.S. Senate to act with haste to pass the Build Back Better Act this year and ensure that paid leave remains in the package.
