An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Restore US public health leadership, global solidarity urgently needed

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

As a physician, I am gravely concerned about the American government's actions to undermine trusted scientific and public health institutions, which pose a severe threat to global health security. By gutting agencies like the CDC, FDA, and NIH, and withdrawing from the WHO, the U.S. is abdicating its responsibility as a world leader. This reckless sidelining of science and expertise leaves us ill-equipped to address urgent health challenges that pay no heed to borders. The void created by America's retreat will be filled by nations willing to invest in rigorous research, evidence-based policymaking, and multilateral cooperation. Longstanding U.S. superiority in medicine and scientific innovation is now at risk. Urgent action is needed to restore funding, independence, and credibility to these critical health bodies before irreparable damage is done. The world cannot afford for America to abandon its public health leadership when global solidarity has never been more crucial.
