An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Protect judicial power - reject provision undermining court authority

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The hidden provision in the "Big Ugly Bill" would effectively eliminate the federal judiciary's ability to hold government officials in contempt of court for defying orders or injunctions. This threatens the system of checks and balances at the core of our democracy. Without contempt power, court rulings become unenforceable and meaningless, rendering the judicial branch powerless to constrain executive overreach. This egregious provision undermines the rule of law and consolidates power in the hands of the President, eroding vital democratic principles. I urge you to oppose this bill and any measure that would cripple the court's authority or subvert the Constitution's separation of powers. Preserving an independent judiciary able to provide checks on executive power is paramount to safeguarding our rights and liberties. Take a stand against this unacceptable overreach that would make a mockery of our democratic institutions.
