Stop Voter ID Laws – Protect Every American’s Right to Vote

We oppose mandatory voter ID laws, including the SAVE America Act. Voting is a fundamental right—not a privilege requiring expensive documents. Voter ID solves a problem that doesn’t exist. In-person voter impersonation is virtually nonexistent—about one case per 14.6 million voters. Meanwhile, these laws disenfranchise legitimate voters. 146 million Americans lack a passport. Obtaining one costs $165—a modern poll tax. The SAVE Act is radical suppression. It would require passports or certified birth certificates to register—documents millions lack—force tens of millions to re-register, and compromise state control of elections. Even Republicans like Utah’s Lt. Governor call it “impossible to implement” and unnecessary. Compromise on voting rights is surrender. Some suggest “giving something” on voter ID to appear reasonable. But the right to vote is not a bargaining chip. Republican leaders admit they isolated voter ID votes to create political weapons—not secure elections. This is a grassroots position. In California, labor and voting rights groups are mobilizing against voter ID initiatives. Republican election officials in Utah oppose the SAVE Act because their states already run secure elections. We demand: · Reject the SAVE Act and all voter ID legislation. · Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. · Expand voting access—automatic registration, early voting, vote-by-mail. The right to vote shouldn’t depend on how much money you have; our elections are already secure; and fundamental rights are not up for compromise.
