An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect America’s Public Lands—They Are Not for Sale

354 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

I am writing to demand that you co-sponsor and support the Public Lands Integrity Act and take a firm stand against any effort to sell, privatize, or transfer America’s public lands. Our public lands belong to the American people—not to special interests, developers, or politicians looking for budget gimmicks. They are a shared national treasure that must be protected for future generations. The economic argument alone should end this debate. Outdoor recreation on public lands generates hundreds of billions of dollars in economic activity every year and supports millions of American jobs. National parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and Bureau of Land Management lands fuel local economies, support small businesses, attract tourism, and provide hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and recreation opportunities that Americans cherish. Selling off these lands is not fiscal responsibility—it is a short-sighted giveaway of assets that provide enormous long-term economic value. Beyond their economic importance, public lands protect wildlife habitat, clean water sources, Tribal cultural sites, historic landscapes, and the natural beauty that defines our nation. Once these lands are sold, the American people may never get them back. Americans overwhelmingly love and support public lands. They are one of the few institutions that unite people across political, geographic, and cultural divides. Whether someone lives in a large city or a rural community, they understand that these lands are part of our national heritage and should remain accessible to everyone. Congress must stop using budget reconciliation and other procedural loopholes to push through land sales without meaningful public input, transparency, or debate. Decisions that permanently dispose of public lands deserve full congressional scrutiny and accountability. Every member of Congress who has pledged to oppose the sale of America’s public lands must now prove it. Words are not enough. Stand with the American people and co-sponsor the Public Lands Integrity Act. Our public lands are not for sale. They should never be traded away, auctioned off, or sacrificed for political convenience. Protect these lands, preserve public access, and ensure that future generations inherit the same natural treasures that Americans enjoy today.
