Congress: Oppose $40-billion Trump Bailout for Argentina: Protect US Farmers
36 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed new figure of a $40 billion bailout for Argentina. Trump’s plan not only contradicts his “America First” policy but also poses a significant threat to U.S. agricultural interests, particularly our soybean farmers.
The biggest question of all of this: Where will that 20-billion come from, especially when Republicans claim there’s no money for foreign aid, or even domestic programs like SNAP.
This foolish proposed $40 billion swap line and additional assistance to stabilize the Argentine peso comes at a time when Argentina has been actively selling soybeans to China! This competes with and undermines U.S. farmers, who are currently struggling to sell soybeans to China, one of our biggest exports.
This action by Argentina has already complicated our trade negotiations with China and put American agricultural exports at a disadvantage.
Our soybean farmers and representatives from agricultural states have rightly criticized this proposal.
It’s inconsistent with the principles of prioritizing American trade interests and could have severe consequences for our agricultural sector. The idea that we would provide financial support to a country that is actively competing against our farmers in the global market is both economically unsound and politically untenable.
While some argue that this move could counter Chinese influence in South America, the potential damage to our agricultural economy far outweighs any geopolitical gains.
This time we must prioritize the welfare of American farmers and their workers. They have borne the brunt of Trump’s dart board tariff policies. Not to mention they have faced many other challenges due to international trade disputes, market fluctuations, climate change-charged extreme weather, and pollution.
I urge you to take immediate action to prevent this bailout from moving forward. Congress must act to protect American agricultural interests and ensure that our foreign policy aligns with the needs of our domestic economy. Please oppose any legislation or executive orders that would facilitate this $40 billion bailout for Argentina. Thank you.
