A common argument in favor of forced birth is that "sex has risk." Put another way, individuals engaging in sex accept and should live with the chance of pregnancy.
I recently saw a video from an educator destroying this argument by asking: should we stop setting broken bones when people get injured play soccer? Should the EMTs refuse to treat folks who get in car accidents? Should someone with food poisoning be refused care? After all, soccer, driving a car, and letting corporations cook for you are all risky endeavors.
Refusing people medical care because they took a risk a small group believes to be inappropriate is absurd and unacceptable. For this and many other reasons, I am writing a letter a day until we end forced birth by writing reproductive freedom into law.
