I watched the confirmation hearing for Pete Hegseth today, and I have to say, you embarrassed Iowa and sexual assault victims across the country. It was clear you couldn’t have tried less.
I respect your military service and the sacrifices you’ve made for this country. I know you’re proud of that service and your commitment to our military. But supporting someone like Hegseth—a man surrounded by scandal—will only degrade the integrity of the institution you hold dear.
Musk may have you worried about being primaried in 2025, but your vote won’t sway low-information MAGA voters who aren’t paying attention. Most Iowans are independents, and they are paying attention. They will remember this.
Hegseth will tell you whatever you want to hear, but you know better. He promised to appoint someone to address sexual assault in the military, but do you really believe he’ll choose someone honorable? Or will his solution mirror his personal life—offering victims money and NDAs to make it all go a way?
Even more concerning is his refusal to commit to standing up against unconstitutional orders from a president. That alone should disqualify him. If he won’t uphold the Constitution, what example will he set for those under his command?
This nomination should be for someone like you. Don’t sell your soul and risk your legacy for someone like Hegseth. Is this the future you risked your life to protect? If sexual assault increases under his leadership, that weight will rest on your shoulders.
The entire nation has their eyes on you right now. Do the right thing.
