Donald Trump and his allies are planning to steal from the American people. A leaked memo shows they intend to gut Social Security by privatizing it and slashing benefits, bypassing Congress to force these changes through (Popular Information, 2025). This is not reform—it’s theft. Americans paid into Social Security with every paycheck, and now Trump’s team wants to take those earned benefits away.
The plan would push workers’ hard-earned contributions into private accounts, gambling retirement security on Wall Street. It would reduce guaranteed benefits, leaving millions vulnerable to poverty and economic instability. Nearly 22 million people, including seniors and disabled Americans, rely on Social Security to stay above the poverty line (Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 2024).
Social Security is not the government’s money. It belongs to the people who paid into it over a lifetime of work. Trump’s scheme robs Americans of what they are owed and breaks a bipartisan promise that has existed for nearly 90 years.
Congress must block this outright. Any politician supporting this plan is complicit in stripping away Americans’ retirement security. The American people will not tolerate being robbed by their own government.
