2026 looks to be the year when decency finally dies.
Less than two weeks into 2026, President Donald Trump’s administration has killed a 37-year-old mother of three in Minneapolis. Launched an unauthorized invasion of Venezuela claiming control of the nation’s oil and killing upward of 100 people. Threatened a NATO ally with hostile occupation. Bombed Syria, again. Threatened Iran. Threatened Cuba. Threatened Mexico. Threatened Columbia.
And threatened every American who speaks up or gets in the streets to object to any of it.
He has told the NYT that international law doesn’t matter: “My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me.”
At his 2025 inauguration, Trump said: “Our power will stop all wars and bring a new spirit of unity to a world that has been angry, violent, and totally unpredictable.”
Ha. Nabbing other nations’ oil and gunning down Americans in the streets doesn’t jibe with stopping wars or nurturing a new spirit of unity. It’s all divisiveness, all the time.
The killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Jan. 7 is example No. 1 of the epidemic of cruelty Trump has unleashed. Before we even knew the name of the person who was killed, Trump and his dead-eyed minions had declared that she was a “domestic terrorist” and had justified the agent’s actions in the court of public opinion.
Then after we knew the victim was a mother of three, a Christian, a person whose last words to the man who killed her were “I’m not mad at you.” After we saw the video that showed the administration was lying about her actions and nothing justified lethal force, the cruelty from Republican leaders just kept coming.
VP JD Vance never uttered a compassionate word, calling Good “a deranged leftist” and all but saying she had it coming.
The Catholic VP was excoriated by the National Catholic Reporter which wrote: “The vice president's comments justifying the death of Renee Good are a moral stain on the collective witness of our Catholic faith.”
Undeterred the VP went on to promise that ICE, once the new recruiting of the most violent and extreme amongst us is completed, will be knocking on our citizenry doors, accompanied by ‘absolute immunity.’
2026 has brought an explosion of strong-armed, imperialistic behavior, coupled with a domestic policy that seeks to legitimize state-mandated murder of those who are not on Trump’s side.
This administration knows they have lost we the people. And they are working double-time to wreak as much damage to our collective lives as possible in a frantic attempt to show us who’s boss.
But here’s the reality we see, not the BS they spew...the killing of a mother of three, with the officer then calmly walking away from the carnage he caused. The refusal by ICE agents to let a doctor get close to the victim. And a DHS agent kicking over candles lit in memory of Good, saying: “I don’t give a fuck.”
There you have it.
