The proposed federal legislation to redefine the word "sex" to be based on genetics and sex assigned at birth would have devastating consequences. It denies the fundamental right of transgender people to be legally recognized for who they are. This discriminatory bill goes far beyond athletics, imposing a blanket prohibition that could extend to activities like dancing, fishing, and even chess competitions. Such overreach undermines basic human dignity and respect for gender identity. Voting for this harmful legislation will not only directly impact vulnerable transgender individuals but also sets a dangerous precedent for further erosion of rights. It emboldens those with an agenda to erase the legal recognition of transgender people's identity entirely. We must reject this unacceptable violation of civil liberties and equality. Protecting the rights and well-being of all people, including transgender individuals, should be a core value. I urge you to stand firm against this discriminatory legislation and any efforts to marginalize the transgender community.
