I write as a constituent and a professional who values the rule of law and human rights. I feel compelled to raise urgent concerns about the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.
Core Concerns
1. Systemic Illegality – ICE agents regularly detain, intimidate, and, in documented cases, use lethal force without due process, violating constitutional protections and international human‑rights standards.
2. Contrary to American Values – These actions undermine the nation’s ideals of liberty, equality, and dignity, damaging both domestic trust and America’s global reputation.
3. Criminal Conduct – Evidence shows ICE personnel have committed assaults, unlawful detentions, and even planned murders. Senior supervisors have either permitted or failed to prevent these abuses, making them accountable as well.
Requested Actions
• Independent Investigation: Launch a bipartisan probe—via the OIG or an external watchdog—into ICE’s practices, focusing on unlawful killings and systemic abuse.
• Prosecutions: Pursue criminal charges against any agents or supervisors with credible evidence of civil‑rights violations or homicide.
• Legislative Reform or Abolition: Enact legislation that either strips ICE of secret‑police powers with strict judicial oversight or moves toward dissolving the agency, reallocating legitimate duties to accountable bodies.
• Whistleblower Protection: Strengthen safeguards for victims and whistleblowers to ensure they can report misconduct without retaliation.
Bipartisan Imperative
Upholding the Constitution and protecting all persons within U.S. borders is a shared responsibility, regardless of immigration policy preferences. Addressing ICE’s unlawful conduct transcends partisan lines and reaffirms that no agency is above the law.
I respectfully ask you to champion these measures in the upcoming session and to publicly affirm that ICE’s illegal actions will not be tolerated.
