I’m writing as a Washington constituent to urge you to vote NO on the SAVE Act and to do everything in your power to ensure it does not pass the Senate.
I know you understand what this bill is and what it does. I’m writing so you also know how it feels from where I sit.
I am deeply concerned about the steady erosion of democratic norms and rights under the current administration, particularly the growing efforts to make voting harder under the guise of “election integrity.” The SAVE Act is not about safeguarding elections — it is about creating new barriers for eligible voters and normalizing the idea that access to the ballot should be conditional, cumbersome, and suspect.
Noncitizen voting is already illegal. Requiring additional documentation to register to vote solves no real problem, but it will predictably and disproportionately harm eligible voters — including military families, people displaced by disasters, people who have changed their names, and communities that already face structural barriers to obtaining official documents.
At a moment when many Americans, especially women, are hearing explicit and implicit threats to their autonomy, safety, and civic participation, legislation like the SAVE Act sends a chilling message about whose voices are welcome in our democracy.
I appreciate your continued leadership in protecting voting rights and democratic access. Please hold the line and reject the SAVE Act.
Thank you for representing us with integrity and courage.
