An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Congress Must Protect the CPSC

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am reaching out to urge you to oppose any attempts to eliminate the bipartisan Consumer Product Safety Commission or undermine its longstanding independence. Congress created the CPSC to protect families across the country from dangerous or illegal products in the marketplace, and give Americans the timely information they need to keep themselves and their families safe. The agency oversees the safety of more than 15,000 types of consumer products, including toys, baby products, appliances, and electronics. It has a special role making sure that kids’ products are safe, recognizing that our children are particularly vulnerable. Now that the CPSC is under attack, Congress must step up to defend it. As one of your constituents, I am extremely concerned that eliminating the CPSC or moving it under the control of the President will make the marketplace less safe, and put consumers like me at greater risk from banned or dangerous products. For more than 50 years, Congress has supported the CPSC’s role as an independent safety watchdog, and it must continue to do so now.
