Hold ICE and This Administration Accountable! Endangering a Protected Individual

I am writing to express deep outrage over the unlawful deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a legally protected Maryland resident, to a prison in El Salvador. This act, the result of an “administrative error” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), reflects not only a catastrophic agency failure but also a moral and legal breakdown overseen by this administration. Mr. Abrego Garcia had been granted protection by a U.S. immigration judge in 2019 under “withholding of removal” due to the credible threat of persecution if returned to El Salvador. Despite this legal safeguard, he was forcibly deported and now sits imprisoned in a Salvadoran maximum-security facility built for gang members and terrorists. This is not simply a bureaucratic slip—it is a violation of U.S. and international law. This administration bears direct responsibility for creating the policies and tone that allowed this injustice. ICE and DHS operate under executive direction. If the administration asserts that the courts cannot intervene to correct its errors, then it is openly rejecting judicial authority and abandoning due process. That is unacceptable in a constitutional democracy. I demand the following: • The immediate return of Mr. Abrego Garcia to the United States. • A full investigation into the failure by ICE and DHS, with criminal or disciplinary consequences where appropriate. • Public assurances that policies will be changed to prevent similar miscarriages of justice.
