An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Intervention in Haiti

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Hello, I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am a 24 year old Coloradan student. I ask that you please condemn the US “intervention” in Haiti. This act of war is a further instance of illegal wars started with no respect to congress. You must work to reassert this role of congress and help fight to end wars not start another conflict. The history of United States meddling in Haiti and our nation’s complicity in the exploitation of the Haitian people must be reckoned with. The people of Haiti must have their right of self-determination respected. The people of Haiti are standing up and the despots in power are calling for foreign aid to protect them from their own people. The people deserve protection from those despots in power. The people of Haiti deserve better than our boots on their ground. The American people and Coloradan citizens deserve better. The money spent on these conflicts is coming out of the mouths of hungry Coloradans and the school budgets of our public schools. We have enough problems here in our country. Bring our soldiers home and end the legacy of US “intervention” that has a long and costly history in blood. I know I’m not a Lockheed Rep. But I hope you’ll still consider my words on this matter. I’ll be voting on this issue among others, and I lead a student government voter engagement coalition and am an active organizer on youth voting. That is to say if this issue is something you gloss over or ignore that I will be working hard as I can to whip votes for someone who won’t. Please do the right thing. For us and the people of Haiti.
