Support H.Con.Res. 61 and 64 to Prevent Unauthorized War in Venezuela

I am writing to urge you to support H.Con.Res. 61 and H.Con.Res. 64, two critical War Powers Resolutions that will be voted on this week. These resolutions would prevent President Trump from launching an unauthorized war against Venezuela and require congressional approval before committing US forces to hostilities in the region.
The Trump administration has already engaged in illegal military actions that are driving us toward another catastrophic forever war. These actions include deploying US personnel to seize Venezuelan oil tankers in international waters, launching double-tap airstrikes that killed capsized and defenseless individuals, declaring a no-fly zone over Venezuelan airspace, and deploying F-18 fly-overs in the Gulf of Venezuela. The president has refused to rule out troop deployments while threatening to overthrow heads of state across the region.
This is not a partisan issue. Three in four Americans oppose a regime-change war to overthrow the Venezuelan government, including two-thirds of Republicans. H.Con.Res. 64, introduced by Representative Jim McGovern, already has bipartisan support from Republicans Thomas Massie and Don Bacon. H.Con.Res. 61, led by Representative Gregory Meeks, would require removal of US Armed Forces from hostilities with any presidentially designated terrorist organization in the Western Hemisphere unless authorized by Congress.
The Constitution is clear that only Congress can authorize offensive military force. These resolutions uphold that fundamental principle while preventing a war that would destabilize the entire region, fuel mass migration, and cost American lives and resources. Representatives Ilhan Omar and Chuy García are leading this effort because the stakes are too high to allow unconstitutional military campaigns to proceed unchecked.
I urge you to vote yes on both H.Con.Res. 61 and H.Con.Res. 64 this week and send a strong message that Congress will not abdicate its constitutional responsibility to authorize war.
