According to the Treasury Department, failing to raise the debt ceiling would have “catastrophic economic consequences,” most likely resulting in a financial crisis as the country defaults on its legal obligation to repay its national debt. This threat is especially harmful today as the US continues to recover from its most recent recession during the pandemic.
Do republicans hate the democrats, hate the liberals, hate the American people so much that they would rather put the nation at risk than raise the debt ceiling?
If the United States defaults on its debt, it would undermine faith in the federal government's ability to pay all its bills on time, affecting the government's credit rating and unleashing massive turbulence in financial markets.
More than 2 million federal civilian workers and around 1.4 million active-duty military members could see their paychecks delayed. Federal government contractors could also see a lag in payments, which could affect their ability to compensate their workers.
Also, certain veterans benefits, including disability payments and pensions for some low-income veterans and their surviving families, could be affected.
Do republicans really want to put seniors on social security at risk? Do they really want to damage a recovering economy one year before an election?
Do republicans really want to adversely impact veterans, a group that republicans constantly claim to support?
In fact, watching republicans in action in Washington one has to wonder if republicans care anything other than doing everything they can to destroy this country.
