An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Texas only)
Don’t Gerrymander TEXAS!

I am writing as a concerned Texan to urge you to oppose any partisan gerrymandering in our state. Texas is home to one of the largest and most diverse populations in the country, and our district maps should reflect that diversity—not manipulate it for political gain.
The proposed mid-decade congressional map would fracture communities, especially majority-Latino and Black neighborhoods, to create additional safe seats for one party. This is not only undemocratic—it silences the voices of millions of Texans. When politicians choose their voters instead of voters choosing their representatives, trust in government erodes, voter engagement declines, and polarization deepens.
Recent events have shown just how divisive this process has become—lawmakers fleeing the state to prevent a quorum, arrest warrants being issued, and an unprecedented level of public frustration. The proposed map is being called one of the most aggressive gerrymanders in the nation, locking in partisan control regardless of how Texans actually vote.
Doing this will not only harm our democratic process—it will hurt Texas itself. Once trust in our state government is broken, it is incredibly difficult to repair. Texans will question whether their votes matter, whether the system is fair, and whether their leaders truly represent them. That kind of disillusionment will weaken civic participation, discourage investment in our communities, and tarnish our state’s reputation across the nation.
Texas deserves fair maps drawn through a transparent and impartial process. We need districts that keep communities whole, reflect our true population growth, and give every Texan an equal voice in their government.
I urge you to reject any map that prioritizes partisan advantage over fair representation. Our democracy—and the credibility of our state—depends on it.
