An open letter to State Legislatures (Colo. only)

Enforce Stricter PFAS Regulations to Protect Communities and Environment

4 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The recent surge in PFAS discharge from Suncor Energy's refinery in Commerce City, Colorado, is alarming. In June, PFAS levels in the water released into Sand Creek were over 10,000 times the EPA health advisory level, with PFOS reaching 2,500 parts per trillion. This contamination threatens downstream communities and burdens municipal water agencies with increased treatment costs. Despite remediation efforts and the installation of treatment technology, the cause of the high PFAS levels remains unknown. It is crucial to enforce stricter PFAS and benzene-control agreements with Suncor and other similar entities. We urge you to support the rewriting of water discharge permits to include more stringent regulations, ensuring the safety of our communities and the preservation of our environment.
