I am writing to express my profound and immediate concern regarding the President’s mental fitness and his ability to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Recent reports regarding the President’s erratic communications with foreign leaders—specifically the bizarre and incoherent correspondence sent to the Prime Minister of Norway—are not merely "unconventional" diplomatic gaffes. They are symptoms of a deep-seated instability that threatens the national security and global standing of the United States.
We are witnessing a breakdown in the basic cognitive functions required to lead the free world. When the President of the United States communicates with our allies in a manner that is nonsensical, delusional, or detached from the reality of international relations, it invites aggression from our adversaries and sows panic among our partners.
The 25th Amendment was drafted specifically for this moment: to protect the Republic when a President is "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." It is clear that we have reached that threshold.
I am insisting that you take the following actions immediately:
1. Publicly Call for the 25th Amendment: As my representative, you must publicly demand that the Vice President and the Cabinet convene to assess the President’s fitness under Section 4 of the 25th Amendment.
2. Demand an Independent Medical Evaluation: Congress must insist on a transparent, independent physical and mental health evaluation of the President to be shared with the American people.
3. Exercise Congressional Oversight: If the Cabinet refuses to act, Congress must use its authority to create a body to evaluate the President’s capacity, as permitted under the 25th Amendment.
The stability of our nuclear command structure, our economy, and our democratic institutions cannot be left in the hands of an individual who is visibly incapable of coherent leadership. To ignore these warning signs is an act of negligence that puts every American citizen at risk.
I expect you to prioritize the safety of this country over partisan loyalty. The time for private concern is over; the time for constitutional action is now.
