No Secret Police in VA

California just passed the No Secret Police Act, banning law enforcement officers, including federal agents, from hiding behind masks during official operations. This isn’t just about a law in another state; it’s about protecting the basic rights of every person in Virginia.
Masked ICE raids in Los Angeles terrified families, stripped away accountability, and made residents powerless to know who was entering their homes. When officers operate in secrecy, our constitutional protections (due process, Fourth Amendment rights, and the ability to hold government accountable) vanish. This is exactly the kind of “secret police” behavior that has no place in a democracy.
Virginia has the chance to do better. We deserve transparency. We deserve accountability. We deserve laws that make sure law enforcement serves the public, not intimidates it. Requiring officers to show their faces is not radical; it’s common sense. It says loud and clear: the government cannot operate in shadows.
I urge you to introduce or support legislation like California’s. Stand with your constituents and defend our rights. If California can do it, so can we. Our communities, and our Constitution, depend on it.
