Please cosponsor H.R.3480 I’m writing as your constituent and a supporter of Sandy Hook Promise to ask you to cosponsor H.R.3480, the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act. This bill would provide grants to help states enact extreme risk protection laws. Extreme risk protection laws keep the public safe while protecting individuals’ Second Amendment rights.
Too often, shooters exhibit warning signs before perpetrating an act of violence. Extreme risk protection orders provide a tool to intervene when the warning signs are dangerous and imminent, allowing law enforcement to petition a judge to remove these firearms temporarily. Due process is built in, and tragedy can be averted until that individual is out of crisis. More states deserve to have this tool available to them.
Please support H.R.3480 to create federal funding for this state legislation to prevent gun violence.
