I am writing to request that you move to sponsor, co-sponsor, or support meaningful firearms control legislation between now and the mid-term election in November 2022. While recognizing that the average bill takes something over a year to enact into law, the five months between now and Election Day should be adequate to draft a proposed legislative measure, find sponsorship, and begin to move it through the appropriate process towards becoming law.
In addition, I request that you pledge to continue to support legislation to create a comprehensive National Firearms Act covering the 50 states, District of Columbia, and all U.S. possessions and territories, under which ownership and licensing of firearms will be regulated much like automotive vehicles, requiring each firearm be registered and an annual license fee paid, owners required to renew licenses every five years, a written test passed, and liability insurance required.
We must do something to stop the killing of our children. If we continue to do nothing, this will happen again and again. I don’t want my grandchildren to live in a country which does *nothing* to protect them while they attend school.
