An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose H.R. 7661 and Protect Local Library Decisions

362 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

I' m writing to urge you to oppose H.R. 7661, the so-called Stop the Sexualization of Children Act. This bill isn't about protecting kids. It's about giving extreme right politicians veto power over what stories belong on library shelves. Library materials are selected by trained literacy professionals who understand child development and community needs. These are people with expertise in helping young readers grow into lifelong learners. H.R. 7661 would override their judgment and replace it with political interference funded by federal restrictions. Parents, not politicians, should guide their children's reading choices. My family has the right to make our own decisions about what books are appropriate for our kids. This bill threatens that freedom. Instead of restricting access, support the Right to Read Act. That legislation would strengthen school libraries with proper staffing and resources while protecting educators and librarians who help young people discover books. It's a real solution that trusts families and professionals instead of micromanaging from Washington. Vote NO on H.R. 7661.
