Our Democracy Is at Risk—Please Take Stronger Action

I am writing to express my deep concern about the ongoing erosion of our democracy under Donald Trump. His repeated violations of the Constitution and abuse of power demand a stronger response. While I appreciate the work you and your colleagues have done to hold him accountable, the stakes have never been higher. Standard political measures are no longer enough—we need bold, decisive action to stop Trump’s lawlessness and prevent further damage. Trump has repeatedly undermined congressional authority, impounded appropriated funds, and obstructed justice. His recent actions—blocking aid to Ukraine, issuing executive orders that contradict established laws, and signaling alignment with hostile foreign powers—are alarming. These are not the actions of a leader who respects democracy; they are the actions of someone who sees himself above the law. Congress must use every tool at its disposal. I urge you to: • Push for impeachment. Trump has committed dozens of impeachable offenses, and ignoring them emboldens further corruption. • Publicly condemn his actions daily. Silence normalizes his behavior, while vocal opposition keeps the truth in focus. • Block funding for destructive policies. Do not allow tax dollars to fund attacks on our rights, environment, and institutions. • Refuse to compromise with bad-faith actors. The GOP must be held accountable for enabling Trump’s abuses. Additionally, I urge you to vote against the following harmful bills, which would dismantle essential protections and services: 1. HR 861 – Terminating the Environmental Protection Agency 2. HR 610 – Vouchers for Public Education 3. HR 899 – Terminating the Department of Education 4. HJR 69 – Repealing Wildlife Protections 5. HR 370 – Repealing the Affordable Care Act 6. HR 354 – Defunding Planned Parenthood 7. HR 785 – National Right to Work (weakening unions) 8. HR 83 – Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities 9. HR 147 – Criminalizing Abortion (“Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act”) This is not politics as usual. This is a coordinated attack on democracy itself. If this were a military coup, the response would be swift and resolute. Just because this attack is unfolding through legal loopholes, disinformation, and institutional sabotage does not make it any less dangerous. We cannot afford to treat this as business as usual.
