An open letter to the U.S. Congress

9 DEATHS in ICE custody. Do oversight now. Rein back ICE abuse

924 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!

I write to ask Congress to do proper oversight on ICE policies and practices. Increasingly, ICE appears to operate outside the law and is a threat to life, rights, civil order and the rule of law. ICE acting director Todd Lyons admitted that 9 people have died in ICE custody since Jan 20. Please investigate these deaths. Make criminal referrals. Do all you can to ensure that those individuals responsible are held accountable and that aggravating policies are changed. ICE agents are defying the law when they fail to respect the Constitution and remove Habeas corpus. ICE agents are ruining the immigration system by detaining people, no, kidnapping then, when they show up as required for court appointments. Why should anyone follow the rules for such appointments if they risk forced abduction when they comply? Now ICE has detained and injured David Huerta. And your Congressional colleague Rep. McIver was unjustly charged when doing Congressionally appropriate oversight of a private ICE detention facility. Why are ICE agents masked? Do they swear an oath to the constitution? Please conduct oversight. Make referrals. Check abuse. Please reply to let me know what measures you will take.
