Block Dangerous Forest Service Restructuring and Research Facility Closures!
700 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!
Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to oppose the Trump Administration's plan to relocate Forest Service headquarters to Salt Lake City and shutter 57 of 77 research facilities. This is just a war on science and being carried out with no actual plan: It’s just deleting things from some spreadsheet.
This restructuring will permanently destroy our federal capacity to address wildfire threats and climate-driven forest management challenges.
You cannot move a thirty-year watershed study or relocate decades-long old-growth monitoring programs. When these facilities close, experiments die, datasets end, and university partnerships collapse.
The Forest Service R&D is the world's leading wildland fire research organization. Climate change is creating longer, more intense wildfire seasons that destroy homes and lives while driving up property insurance premiums. We need this research more than ever, not less!
In Trump’s las administration, the 2019 relocations of the Economic Research Service and Bureau of Land Management to Kansas City and Grand Junction failed.
The Government Accountability Office found that nearly half of relocated BLM staff declined reassignment, and the reorganization yielded no effective reforms.
This same outcome will gut the Forest Service.
The entire $9 billion Forest Service budget represents just 0.6% of the proposed defense budget.
Nobody is asking for this restructuring.
Not farm groups, not conservation organizations, not forest managers who depend on tools like the Seedlot Selection Tool and Fire Management Adaptation Menu. NO ONE wants this except this destructive cabal in the White House.
Do what you can to block this plan and protect the research capacity that keeps our forests and communities safe.
Summer is already here. Thank you.
